The Horticultural Enthusiasts’ Association (THEA) was formed in 1978 by a group of students just completing the RHS Amateur Gardening Course at Reaseheath College. They were keen to continue to meet regularly, to improve their knowledge of Horticulture and to share their interest in plants and gardens.
THEA is independent, non-profit making and open to former Reaseheath students who have completed at least three terms of a Course in Horticulture, such as RHS, City & Guilds, or Garden Design.
Our typical annual programme includes:
- Two Study Days (four lectures) at Reaseheath College on horticultural topics
- Several visits in the summer to important gardens and nurseries, usually including a trip further afield by coach
- Three Newsletters per year
- Plant bring-and-buy sales
The Study Days are held during the October and February half-term. Lectures are on horticultural subjects such as pests and diseases, planting design, plant collectors, specialist vegetable growing. The Study Days also give members a chance to see new developments at Reaseheath as well as meeting up with their former colleagues.
Garden Visits are announced in our Spring Newsletter. In past years we have visited Sir Roy Strong’s garden at the Laskett and Arabella Lennox-Boyd’s garden at Gresgarth. This year we visited Prince Charles’ garden at Highgrove and several other gardens in and around Cheshire.
